October 27: Money-Driven Medicine National “Watch-In” Begins With Screening at the U.S. Capitol—Watch the Film At Home—Free Streaming Video Online

Money-Driven Medicine, the film produced by Academy-Award winning filmmaker, Alex Gibney (Taxi to the Dark Side; Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room), directed by Andy Fredericks, and based on my book (Money-Driven Medicine: The Real Reason Health Care Costs So Much) , will be screened at the U.S. Capitol in Washington DC on October 27.

Alex Gibney and I will be doing a Q&A after the screening, moderated by the Washington Post’s Ceci Connolly.

Bill Moyers has called Money-Driven Medicine “one of the strongest documentaries I’ve seen in years. The more people see and talk about it, the more likely we are to get serious and true healthcare reform.”

I would add that director Andy Fredericks, and the film’s field producer, Deidre Sheehan, did a brilliant job of finding doctors and patients who tell riveting stories, while simultaneously exposing many of the less-well-known facts about our broken health care system. California Newsreel, which is distributing Money-Driven Medicine, describes it as “the only film to explore the economics underlying – and too often undermining – health care delivery, and cuts through many of the sound-bite and ad-driven myths, charges and counter-charges swirling around the debate.”

In conjunction with the Capitol screening, California Newsreel will make Money-Driven-Medicine available for free streaming or on DVD for two weeks of intensive “healthcare study and action.”  For more information, and to access the free video of the film (full 80-minute version), click here. (At this site, you can also buy a DVD for home use at a low price.)

California Newsreel has partnered with Consumers Union, Campaign for America’s Future, and Campus Progress, among others, to call for health care reform. Newsreel will be hand-delivering DVDs of Money-Driven Medicine on behalf of Watch-In! outreach partners to all 535 members of the House and the Senate.
